I always seem to be blogging yesterdays

events but its all good. 

In just 365 days I'll be 64. OMG, I can't believe it. Who would have thought back in 1969 I'd get this far? 

All last week I was looking forward to last nights big game between Hamilton/Edmonton. Two teams 5-2, East vs West. I didn't have a Proline ticket but I would have picked a tie game. What was I thinking? The T-cats kicked our ass 49-20. Two many turnovers and points based upon them and ball security did us in. All I can hope for is for the Riders to beat the Stamps at Mosaic. That way it still keeps the Esks tied for first in the West if the Riders win today.

I'm progressing further into "The Descent of Angels" the Horus Heresy book I skipped over due to spoilers a few years ago. It kind of reads young adult but I'm still enjoying it. I'll be reading more before the game today. Note to self: Don't read reviews of a book before reading it as the reviews may contain spoilers. Other then Robert J Sawyer or if there's something that strikes my attention, Horus Heresy,  Space Marine Battles and Warhammer 40K Omnibus books are about the only books I'm buying lately. The Black Library publishes about 3-4 Horus Heresy mass market paperbacks a year and about the same for Space Marine Battles. I buy 1 hard cover book a year and that's only Robert J Sawyer's book and the matching RJS ebook. The Space Marine Battles books are trade and cost $18 a book. I pop into Audrey's or Coles at least once a month. I'm waiting for the next Horus Heresy book "Legacy's of Betrayal," it should be out next month in mass market paperback.   

The Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo (Sept. 25-27, 2015) Special guest will be Stan Lee. At 92 this might be the one and only time he'll ever come to Edmonton. A Saturday pass is $30, which isn't that bad. I'd book off work to see Stan Lee. There's a lot comic book artists as well. More guests will be announced in the next few weeks leading up to the event.

Not much going on for today. I'm hoping sometime after labour day weekend I'll be back to work. Anyway, that's all for now.

That was a long day yesterday

and even though I need the hours, I'm glad I have today off. Even though it was a short week.

It's only a 1 day event, 4 times per year. Its the 1st ever Edmonton Collector Con (ECC). This year it's at the Chateau Louie across the street from the Ramada and way smaller then the Edmonton Expo held in October. Next ECC dates are: June 8th, August 10th and Nov 16th. I'd go but there's not much opportunity to sit down.

I'm waiting for a invitation to work at my 2nd job, which begins next Saturday. I really need a break from my current job though and work just Saturdays. Only if I can find something steady during the afternoons. If I don't get the invitation back for my 2nd job that is. If not, then I'm off to AW to find something I can do during weekday afternoons with an hour for traveling to my 1st job. I'm going to aggressively look for something like that in March.

It's been in the news recently. By now everyone has heard about Apples email hack with it's iPad etc. This apparently is only if one is trying to access email and use the app store at a free hot spot. I'm sure Apple is trying to fix the problem. not that I'm a huge fan of Apple but I do like their iPad/iTouch devices. I wouldn't buy a iMac etc. Way to expensive and their Ram is overpriced.  

Now I'm sure this is a product of diabetes but I'm having difficulty swallowing food. My wife says it's got to do with blood not flowing properly at the back of the neck. She thinks it's the sign of a stroke about to happen and she could be right. I take a aspirin every day as this has me a bit worried. I can swallow soups, ravioli, canned stew, chili that sort of thing. This only began to happen about a year ago. Personally I think it has to do with drinking too much diet pop.   

The Canada/Sweden mens hockey game is on at about 6:30am Edmonton time? Local bars have got a special license to serve alcohol at 5:30am! It's a historic occasion. I'll be sleeping at that hour. Anyway, that's about all for now.

Yesterday

I left out of here shortly before noon for my 1-8pm shift. Weather wise it was just recovering from a rain earlier in the morning. Apparently the City had all of it’s attractions available free for the public yesterday. I gave a nod to Edmonton Fan Expo as the train went by Rexall. I got into the office thinking I’d like to opt out of the full shift. I began to get into it and felt a bit better. I began to follow the Riders/Al’s game. By 5:30pm I had my half hour and a chicken TV dinner, which was surprisingly tasty. Al’s beet out the Riders 17-12! I had 2 hours to go and I worked that out ok. Despite all of that, I was feeling ok. In fact, not to bad. I even got my train on time at Corona. I even got inside at 8:30pm!

Anne was “face timing” her sister when I walked in and had a small chat. I said something on how I’m considering the iTouch 4th Gen in November. Anne got all defensive but Donna stool up for me.

Anne made us our Sunday brunch latter and we watched the news and just before local news our other Budgie, Sugar passed away.  She’s been looking listless lately and still. When I called Anne about 5pm she was saying Sugar was feeling a lot better. Then Anne noticed Sugar not moving and that’s when she said she died. She took it hard. Me, not as much because I don’t know how many birds over the last 3 years we lost. Beaker is our last. So as sad as it’s worth mentioning, I’m not feeling good about her loss. I feel more bad for Anne then the bird. Sugar of course yes, but more for Anne. No More birds! Famous last words, and I’m sure if we get another one, it’s fate will meet more or less the same way.

Well, that’s September. It’s been rough on me hours wise and losing pet’s wise and thank God that’s over with. I had a nice healthy stash in August and that was gone over night.

I’ve got a relatively easy week hour wise (not that I like it that way) Thursday I’m paying another visit to Service Canada and I’m going to see about some career counseling and get myself a second job or a better paying job. As much as I like the job, I can’t live on money like this. I’ll either have too get another part time job or another first job. Something has to give. I might get my cpp November 1st which will help, a bit. Anyway, that’s all for now.

Its been a hot one this afternoon

The topic on for Coast overnight is survival. Not one of my favorite topics but I like to catch any of the "other" news they have on just at the beginning of the first hour but Wells unlike Noory doesn't cover a lot of this sort of thing.

The BC/Al's game Friday night, I never thought it would be a tie game because the Al's were so hungry for a win at home and they got it 38-39 for a Proline tie. Then last night Stamps/Argo's. It would have been an Argo's win except Ricky Ray got injured and had to be put on the sidelines. That was the momentum shift Calgary needed. This game was hyped as a Grey Cup rematch from last year. Calgary won 35-14. I forgot about the significance of the game. Then the double header today. Winnipeg/Hamilton. 14-37 for the home team. I called that one right. Then the Riders/Esks game and the Esks held the lead twice on the 1 yard line Esks football to take us into the lead late in the fourth quarter. The coach took our young quarterback Mike Riley out of play thinking back up Qb had this. Then after the ball is snapped the ball is fumbled then recovered. They should have gone for a field goal to tie the game at 30. Instead of going for the field goal they take the replacement Qb out insert Mike Riley and he spots his man in the end zone, the ball is tossed and it's picked off! Riders have possession and wind the clock down. Another Proline tie! Riders 30-27. Up next is the labor day classic and we got Friday Hamilton/BC. Sunday Winnipeg is at Saskatchewan, Monday its Edmonton/Calgary. Tuesday Montreal/Toronto. I'll be working up until 7pm so I'll miss that game. The labor day classic is the unofficial mid way part of the season. 

This summer was so short and NHL training camp for the Edmonton Oilers is right around the corner. September 14th.

I'm not a great fan of the Batman franchise. I liked the first 4 movies. I didn't see the Christopher Nolan series yet. So now Ben Affleck has been selected as the new Batman in the 2015 Batman/Superman movie. There's a lot of buzz about this, to which I say...meh. My response to the hoopla of Ben Affleck.

Seems that Obama is going to make a decision about Syria and about their use of chemical weapons on their own people. Obama wont do anything because Syria has Russia in they hip pocket. Syria can basically do what ever it wants. if Russia backed Iraq to the extent it does Syria then the war in Iraq never would have happened. Just my opinion

Fan expo in Toronto's last day is tomorrow and it looked like a good one. We get our own fan expo here in Edmonton September 28-29. It's not as big as the one we had last year. This year, Garrett Wang of Star Trek Voyager will be there. Christopher Lloyd. and a bunch of others I'm not familiar with. It's a stripped down version of last years event but for $20 bucks it's not a bad deal but there's nothing special for yours truly. I probably wont be going.

I took a sleeping pill before bed early this morning and other then waking up to pee the odd time, the pill really zonked me out. I remember up about 8:30am to use the bathroom and I passed out right after that and woke up at about 12:40pm. I like to wake up about 10am on a Saturday. Anyway that's all for now.

I was going to go out today

but I’ve got all week. Anne’s going to get some things she wants to do like look into a medical subsidy for us her Doctor referred us to. She also wants to check on insurance as well.

Saturday here in Edmonton we had “A Taste of Animethon.” It had 1,505 people for the event, which wasn’t to bad. I’m not a fan of Anime per se’ but it looked like a fun event. And I hope next years event is even bigger August 22nd weekend is the annual Fan Expo Canada and it's got a lot of stuff going on for that 4 day event. Including, Stan Lee, Joe Sakic, David Hasselhoff, Joe Montana, SLASH, Zachary Quinto, Alice Cooper and even Hulk Hogan brother! There's more about it here:

At first I thought getting a new PC has it's advantages. I can use it for gaming and of course music and I haven't ruled that out yet. Then I cam across the Akai Synthstation. It's been around for awhile but what I like about it is it can be used in conjunction with the iPad 3rd Gen. The only thing it's missing is 2 midi out cables. I'm looking at getting this and at under $75 it looks pretty good. 

Coast had a great show this morning UFO's & Wormholes: Joining John B. Wells on Sunday night, UFO researcher Wilbur Allen presented an update on UFO sightings that he believes are beyond this world, and demonstrate craft entering and leaving our atmosphere through a wormhole or stargate. Apparently he caught this stuff on cameras with very high frame rates and presented a video taken of frame rates per second. It's an interesting topic. I'm not sure why ET would come to this planet unless it's a staging ground between galaxies. Maybe we're the only civilization that hasn't the capability to detect them, who knows? A wormhole would be the only way to span large distances between systems not as advanced as theirs. We should be able to detect a wormhole by its magnetic field. it's a science that's beyond our capability.   

So this means I can check for my school transcripts this week and Tuesday I’m going out to start my cpp. Wednesday I’m in for a few hours and off for the rest of the week. I like having a couple of weeks off. Tonight it's Monday night Raw and after that Anne and I are going across the street to "Bo'diddly's Pub." I'm thinking about treating us to some nacho' but this is my chance to have a Guinness. Anyway, that's about all for now.

Not the best of weekends but

Anne got me the beer last night which was nice.

I’m seriously thinking about getting that wifi Cannon camera this week. For something under a 100 bucks the price is right and this will be perfect if I ever get a chance to get to the Star Wars identities this Easter Weekend..

Again I missed the Edmonton pop Culture Fair at the Edmonton: 

It's now in it's 11th year.Aviation Museum. It made the evening news and it looked like they had a huge crowd. Since they now have a Facebook page, that’s, going to go in my list of links later today. I am however going to make a note to self to go to the fan expo in October. To think I went right by the Aviation Museum last Friday taking Anne out for her birthday supper.

Next week is Robert J Sawyer’s annual Spring book tour. This time with “Red Planet Blues.” That’s when I cash in on my Audrey’s club member points. 

Tonight, it’s another round of Monday night Raw and the Oiler game. I’m channel surfing tonight folks! Anyway, that’s about all for now. 

          

I had a decent day off yesterday

I was able to configure my usb set up as before I figured this arrangement out my Cubase dongle wouldn't function on my usb hub

Now I've got the hoarse voice to go along with this cold. Lovely. Hopefully it wont be as bad as the one I had last year. That took me out of action for about 2 weeks before I got any strength back to my voice.

At work I write down the date of every time I make a notation. So, when I began writing the dates down Friday I thought, WTF? It's 3/1/13. Here in North America we write the date out month/day/year. In Europe they write it out day/month/year. When the slash is removed Friday's date was 3113!

Next month in Calgary they are having their annual comic and entertainment expo. We had ours last October.I wanted to meet John de Lancie but I didn't know about the show until the last minute.artist Michael Mateyko created this poster, featuring minimalist portraits of the myriad Avengers members throughout the years. He created the poster for April's Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, but it's already available at Komboh's Society6 store. Some of this was from the i09 site. It's s nifty poster to celebrate 50 yers of the Avengers. 

 

On tap for this week, Sunday Oiler hockey game, Monday night Raw, Tuesday Oilers/Wild, Wednesday is open, which means I can bus over to City Centre mall get that Warhammer Omnibus book and a bite to eat. Thursday it‘s book off work at 4pm head home clean up, get ready, head out to Lodge to get there by 6pm and then we go to Freemason‘s Hall for a Lodge to Lodge visit. With any luck, I‘ll be done by about 9:40pm and will meet Anne after she gets off work. Friday after work I do my banking and pick up Machine. Can‘t wait. So the above is my week next week.

We're supposed to get about 15cm of snow overnight just to remind us that winter hasn't left. Even though Spring is only 2 weeks away and daylight savings time is next weekend. 

If possible when I get my copy of Machine Friday night I'll try and get one of the guys to take a video of me un-boxing it. I'm also going to get some of the Reaktor ensembles from Twisted tools.I like "Rollodeck" and "S-layer". Anyway, that's all from me for now.
