+30 and I'm glad I got out of lifting that hide-a-bed out of here because I had a heat stroke in the morning that lasted pretty well much all afternoon. It was brought about by my sinus condition bit I feel a bit better although we could have used the AC unit on. I was in bed before midnight.
Still working on my Warhammer 40K Space Wolf summer read and wondering if I should get the online or print version of What dwarf magazine. I'll probably get the online version because I own an iPad anyway.
Currently on my mind is a major decision city council is going to vote on Wednesday. It's to decide to borrow the money for a new downtown arena. People don't realize that Rexall place was built with public money. At the moment it wont be the end of the world or anything if city council votes "No." The Oiler's will still be at Rexall. It means the Oiler's will still have the oldest arena in the league and about 2-3 billion dollars worth of projects in the area that would not be developed if the arena does not go through. Plus if we don't build it now, it's going to cost a lot more a year or even 2 from now. Also, the tax benefits to city coffers is huge, like about $160 million/year.
Anyway, it's a regular back to work day for me. I wish we could start at 8:30am and leave at 4:30pm but I'd lose an extra half hour. Anyway, it's a long day ahead for me. That's all for now.

Rather then add onto the last post
might as well just make a new one.
The 3 big things on my radar coming up is my week off and then the election and more importantly my bit in our Lodge's EA degree after that I can breath a little easier.
Today I've got 8 hours ahead of me and 9pm couldn't come fast enough. Sales in WR are harder to come by because the party candidates cant shut up by making stupid comments and its not just WR its the PC's as well. The only ones staying out of the mudslinging are the NDP's and and the Liberals. Anything other then WR is not an option. Most people I've been talking to will support WR but not financially. I don't like the new script of the Federal "NDP Leader" (official opposition)because its way to wordy and it makes personal attacks on the leader of the NDP and not on the issues of what the NDP would like to do.
The other thing that bugs me is there are 2 types of working class people in this country: Unions and the working poor. Union workers make $20-30hour where as the working poor make minimum wage-$18/hour. And of course executives but that's another topic. My father was a Union man when I was growing up in the 1960's and I recall our family suffering on strike pay more then a few times. Union workers whine the most as well if they are Legislated back to work or when the company needs other workers to replace them. I'm not saying all Trades are "Unionised" but most are. The NDP are for the unions that's where they get their votes from. Most of the guys in my Lodge are Tades people and chances are they are in a union.
I was watching this ^ video on The space elevator proposed project and even though it may look like science fiction, it's not like it's Star trek or Star Wars. The concept is simple enough: Build a platform at earths equator launch a rocket to Geo synchronous orbit 250 miles up and place a counterweight drop a carbon nano tube cable to the platform build a climber and propel the climber up the cable. The climber could have a platform where it could carry astronauts and materials to said Geo orbit (space). The platform would be lifted by a laser from the platform. Consider that 1 space shuttle launch costs about $450M per launch! It would cost almost nothing to launch a space vehicle from the counterweight to the space station. In the video above they're saying this project could be 15-20 years away. The major challenge would be the the carbon nano tubes themselves. I believe that Nasa's current next gen space travel vehicle is just a bridge from the space shuttle to the space elevator. The other concerns I have is all the space junk floating around up there but I'd say a prototype could be up and ready within 10 years.
Well. I'm about ready to pack things up for the day. We're supposed to have our cable hooked up today but the next Kings/Canucks game #5 won't be until Sunday. There are other NHL playoff games during that time, anyway that's about all for me today.

Not a lot going on
around here.
I put in a full 8 hours on the job, doing semies. Uggh. I got home to route my Ethernet cable before booting up Ubuntu and got the browser to work. I downloaded Rosegarden but haven't had the time to play around with it yet.
Canada post has yet to obey the Federal back-to-work order but it should be passed into Law by Thursday. I don't have any problem with Unions striking but when it's an essential service, then I draw the line. The way the "opposition" is carrying on you'd make it think that Union Workers are the only people working in this country when in fact they are a minority. As of 2007 according to Wikipedia, Canada Post has 72,000 workers making an average of $27/hour. Meanwhile many times more people in this country could lose their jobs (including me) if the mail doesn't start flowing soon. Funny though the NDP didn't do much if anything when Air Canada went on strike.
Tonight (Tuesday) Coast has another lame show on-skin cancer and diet. Boring. though last nights show was on Space news. So Coast can be forgiven for their lousy show tonight.
SF Signal in their "Mind Meld" department is asking "What cultures has been neglected as inspiration in Science Fiction and Fantasy?" Good question. I never really gave this much thought. Some on the SF Signal panel are suggesting India is often overlooked. I'd even suggest some micro cultures such as cults are largely ignored. I wouldn't call them a cult but when was the last time Scientology was mentioned in SFF other then L Ron Hubbard? Or how about Amway, Christianity? There are other examples like Freemasonry just to name a few. These groups don't have to be mentioned by name but they provide fertile ground for the SFF genre. Some risk bordering on the line of fanfic and conspiracy theories.
SF Signal also mentions the Stoker award. Now I've never been a fan of the Vampire craze that's been all the rage lately. Everywhere you look there's enough Vampires in this gene. Way to many but I got to give respect where it's do. My favorite vampire of all time wold have to be Barnabous Collins from Dark Shadows and of course from SCTV's Count Floyd. Valley scalley kids.
I've been wanting to play Heroclick for sometime now and over there at Happy Harbour comics they are hosting a Heroclick tournament and run Heroclick Friday game nights at the downtown store. Hopefully I'll be back at work business before to long. James thinks somewhere around the middle of July. Works good for me. Anyway, that's about all for now.
