at Rogers place arena. Most likely the Oilers won't win Stanley in game 7.
Ok a heart to heart rant here folks. Mainly because this is where or near the end of the series, officiating takes control of the game. It's part of the NHL Stanley Cup officiating playbook. Penalty calls will be "missed" and other ones will be awarded. Usually in favour of US teams. It's sometimes a subtle shift. It's not a whine but me facing a certain reality of the modern hockey era in the NHL. Last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was the 1993 Montreal Canadians. Betman made sure that his first year as Commisioner would be the last time a Canadian team would win the Stanley Cup. Now that's mostly theory (or is it?) on my part but it's shared by many others as well. Most of us older guys know. TV commentary knows but can't say anything. Everyone thinks The Edmonton Oilers are going to win this year. Sorry people but it won't be the case. Some will say "There are more American teams in the NHL." It's not even that. If I had a thousand bucks to bet win or lose on the series winner, it'd be Florida Panthers. I love my Oilers team. This is the best Oilers team since 1987 IMO, and we could have a dozen McDavid's and Draisaitl's, best goal tender in the world. We would still lose. It's out of the player hands. To a point. In this case, I give all the credit to Florida. They are the better team. We just have to pretend it's all above board. It's real sports entertainment. I know the real cause here. Most of us do. So lets cheer Canada's team and put on a brave face. The Oilers are a great team in the regular season.
Sorry but not this year. I think McDavid is begining to figure this out. Anyway, that's my rant.
