Finally, April is over with as

it was mentioned on local news that our local weather hasn't been this cold since the early 1980's. The first time in local weather history that we did not on this day reach above 0..ever!

Tonight on Coast the topic is a bit lame: "Harnessing Your Dreams." Not really something I'm interested in so it looks like George is out to promote another book.So for the next several days they have some soft topics.

It's with a sense of relief after reading my Lodge newsletter that our Lodge secretary (at my request) placed a announcement for a special meeting the first weekend in June. I'm grateful for that. If I have my health and when I'm say 73, I can look back at this post with a sense of nostalgia.

My job woes continue to give me grief. I almost got pulled off a project and I'm not out of the woods yet. I asked the boss if this means I'm fired and he said no. It's not that I'm not without options and I have some savings for a rainy day and I can always go on unemployment insurance for like 8 months and continue my education (It might save me from a job search) as I'd like to take a accounting course or something like that. Although, I'd like to be working for as long as I can I'd like to continue working, that's what I'd like to do but I have another 4 years and 4 months until I qualify for full pension, wu-who! Like that's something to look forward to.

On local news this evening they had a story on Space tourism and they said that for a $200,000 deposit, you can book a spot in about 3 years. Would I go into space? What with 2 metal rods in my spine? Not a chance. I'd get rejected before the ink was signed. Anyway, that's all for now.

I was in good spirits on my morning commute into the office and the weather was pretty good as well,

all things considering, despite it being slow, it was a good day today.

Out of the gaming world, Diablo 3 was released yesterday. I imagine there was a line up of gamers to get the game. I played the first one but I didn't think much of it at the time. The game designer also did Warhammer 40K among others.

This is fairly common place in Europe but talking surveillance cameras are apparently coming to the US and Canada. Seems like there's an invasion of privacy issue going on around here.

The other day on the news they were talking about the Google wallet how smartphone users would be able to use their smartphones to pay for items at the retail level. Consumers are already used to electronic banking. I'd be a little worried about hackers getting into the system.

Wednesday before work I'm heading over to Audrey's to pick up my RJS book that's been there for over a month. I've got the cash for that and enough to last me until payday Friday. Anne got my insulin this afternoon and some needles.

On the job after 7pm I watched bits and pieces of the LA/Phoenix game #2 and LA is leading in the series 2-0. Phoenix is in real trouble here and the way LA is going they could sweep this series as well. It could all end Saturday night for Phoenix.

Yes, I knew it was coming: Disney is making an animated version of Tron. Yeesh. I loved the first 1, the 2nd one was pretty good but an animated version? Anyway, that's enough silliness for today.

Yesterday I got out of here right

on time for my 9am commute to the Clareview LRT and a nice trip down to Corona station up to Tim's. I ordered a sausage egg breakfast wrap for a change a couple orders of hash browns and a coffee for about $5.60 something. James came in and ordered coffee for management and I walked with him to the office and with CB.

That was the only good thing about the rest of the day. I got 1 sale and after that, nothing. There were about 4 of us under $75 so I wasn't totally alone but the day sure was long and Anne wasn't home to answer my call on my 2:00pm break around 2:20pm. I thought the extra 2 hours from 2:30pm to 4:30pm would be better, but nothing. One of our hot shot sales people that has been known to do $500+ couldn't even break a $75. It was tough going but with it being the Family day weekend in a lot of places here in the country the last thing a broke/unemployed receptive customer wanted to do was to part with their hard earned (what little of it they had). Yet some people were doing well. The other thing I had going against me was my friend beside me. His voice was bleeding into my mic like a bad mix session. He was kind of loud. I like the guy and I didn't want to say anything but I'm going to sit over there up by the middle of the rectangular shaped office, to see the TV and to see the TV when we get it installed. If I last that long. But I know, all of us are expendable I get that but if keeping our jobs were predicated on our line our, HO might as well shut down the Edmonton office. I don't see this happening. Sure they could get rid of individuals but with the solid economy here, I don't see that happening either. Not that I'm comfortable in my job at all, because I'm not. The boss could get an email from HO to let anyone of us go at anytime we could be called into the office. That's why I need to look at a plan b. Plan B is in the works on my next available Monday off, which will be March 5th.

This Monday is Family day and next Monday I'll be working because at our next Lodge communication will be next Thursday and because we're holding a degree it's going to be a little early at 5:30pm. Even though I get off at 4:30pm, there won't be enough time for me to get home clean up dress for Lodge and climb into the car for Lodge. So I'm taking that day off and working the Monday instead. I'll have 35.5 hours in anyway.

Right now its a snow day out there and we're getting it good but its supposed to warm up this week. It's not going to stay on the ground but never say never.

I got a email alert from my Connect 2 Edmonton (C2E) message board as I'm subscribed to a couple of threads. One is called "Edmonton construction projects." I've been noticing over the past few weeks some construction going on slightly North of the Clareview LRT and one of the posters asked about what was going on. I noticed a crane as my morning bus turned the corner at the Clareview theaters but I could see the crane for a brief second. Today I was able to (thanks to c2e) put a name to that project: The City of Edmonton is building a multi use $90 million rec centre, which is under construction and should be ready for 2014. It's also going to have a City of Edmonton library branch as well. It's going to be nice to have a hot tub and a sauna within easy walking distance as well as all the other amenities that come with it. The link is here .

On my commute in the morning, these are the projects under development; Clareview rec centre,  Station Pointe, there's a warehouse facility being built on the yellowhead, RK East by Riverside Towers, Boyal street co-op facility and a block West where I'm exiting Corona station is the new Mayfair 250 block apartment complex almost completed and that's just on my way to work! If that isn't enough, just looking out our window I can count 3 construction cranes, one behind Grant MacEwan one over behind the old Army & Navy building and one way out east. I don't know what that one is. And if THAT's not enough, we have the new Alberta museum in the works in the next year or so, and it was announced yesterday a new 3,500 seat opera house in the Arts district. Plus the LRT expanding to NAIT line under full construction and that's just in my sphere of influence that I know of! So, there's a lot going on and I love it.

I'm trying to catch up on my reading this weekend. I hope. Anyway, that's about all for now.

I got up early this morning

having enough sleep and I didn't charge up my Ipod I use for my alarm.

Anyway, I have a 4 day weekend coming up but all that means is my hours will be short next

But I have 4 days off so I hope I can catch up on my reading and finish that Star Wars book and go onto the WWW trilogy. Anyway, that's all for now.

From yesterday and today

back from being laid up Wednesday and we're doing the circus.
It was rough going but eventually I got a sale. The regional manager from Vancouver was also there as well and apparently they were there to go over strategy for finding us another office as our lease at our present location will be up before the end of the year.

*I felt OK by going in about 8:30am I figured I would be about the only one there. Sure enough there was about half our crew there, mainly because it was Friday/payday. Jay filled in for Gerry apparently doing something with the GM so we got a break from circus and did cops. I had a great morning and got bonus money for top total and my check just after I came up from getting my 2 Proline tickets for 3 games. 1 ticket to win pays out $20 the other one reversed order, same games pays out $12. I spend $4. After work I went to my bank and over to Audrey's to get my special order and shop. I got book 2 of the Stephen Hunt's Jackelian series:

I thought I had 2 Warhammer 40k books but the other one is my 1st ever steampunk read.I also ordered the 3 Omnibus volumes of David Drakes Hammer slammer series. They were still in print. The LRT ride home was better then last night, that's for sure. I was in the apartment, half expecting Anne sitting on the couch off work having a cold but she left me dinner to heat up and a night by myself.

I had an OK day for my first day on Circus but nothing on card. I called Anne on my break and after work handed in my recap and went to Corona station so I could get home and have a chat with Neil for a ride to the Lodge. But the weather made the trip so long with all the interruptions up and down the line, a 20 minute train ride took an hour! I got home at 5:45pm. Too late to set up a ride in this weather to the lodge by Neil. Wait, he's not slated to do anything anyway. So I called Nathan and he picked me up. I forgot my Apron. The whole evening was a mess because of the low turnout but we were able to form Lodge and put 2 candidates through. I screwed up my lines in the beginning but the middle was good and messed up near the end. Yeesh. Also, there are a couple other lodges that are doing something this Saturday at the Lodge downtown. I was thinking about going in and work until noon and then head up to the Freemasons Hall and sit in on their FC degree and fellowship for later. Interesting.

I got up a bit early because I couldn't sleep. Anyway, today I'm in for the full day. I'll leave out of here at 4:30pm do my banking and head for home and the long weekend. If I feel any better I might come in for Saturday morning. We'll see. Anyway, that's about all for now.

From yesterday and today

I went and bought my 6/49 ticket at the Clairview Redi mart to get change to whomever might have won Thursdays (US) NFL Thanksgiving day games. But when I got inside the office, according to Gerry they only had a few games. The rest will be played on Sunday.

Ok so it doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to upgrade my laptops video card for gaming purposes. I’m back to upgrading my desktop, again. Vinny was saying earlier that my desktop mobo doesn’t need to worry about Sata cables etc. for a video card upgrade but to play today’s games, I defiantly need PCI express slots and my mobo doesn’t have PCI express. So I need a mobo upgrade. I’m looking at one from Gigabyte. Its got 2 PCIe slots but most likely I will need to go into the Bios to disable it before I install the graphics card. I’m looking at possibly the GTX 480. I’m not sure yet.

I went to bed about 1am and woke up suddenly at around 3am and I couldn’t get back to sleep from there. I wanted to get up around 7am anyway about when dawn breaks because this way Boots won’t want to jump the balcony when its daylight. I just began a cup of coffee and I‘ve got an hour or so here until I stat getting ready for work. The last thing I‘m going to do is to pack up my laptop for the office. It would be really nice if Vinny could install the software for me before we start the shift so right after work (4:30pm) we can head immediately over to BP’s. I can get a bite to eat there and hang out with the guys before heading out to “Hot to Huddle.” Well, I want to check it out as long as it doesn’t cost anything. I think it’s a free event open to the public. If anything, I’ll be hankering to get into FL9 tonight after a bite to eat and a beer at BP’s in my system, I’ll be able to nap for an hour or so and a couple hours to myself to get into this thing.

Tomorrows the big game. Grey Cup edition #98. After work last night as I was doing my banking the “Rider Nation” was out in full force. Green “S” jersey’s everywhere. The bars are full it’s a great time for the city. Next year it’s the 99th Grey Cup and the host city will be Vancouver. Game time starts at 4pm Sunday. Go Rider’s Go! They have home field advantage against Montreal.

SF Signal today asks about SF turkeys. Books that have been “turkeys.” one of the most uninspiring books I’ve tried to read over the last while has been Sheri S. Tepper’s “The family tree.” I stuck it out for about 150 pages, uggh. I haven’t read many books this year. In fact I’m currently reading my 6th book of the year this month. None of the books I’ve read this year have been strong enough to hold my interest except the last L.E. Modesitt jr. book and even then that wasn’t exactly a page turner either.

Coast has another boring topic on for tonight, “Non Conformity.” Oh brother. I’m not a programming director or anything but for the love of God can we get these soft topics off Saturday night? The good stuff is always on Sunday nights, when Ian Isn’t hosting the show. I’m heading back to business Monday morning for a full day At least I’ll get 40 hours in. Anyway, have a good weekend everyone.
